[Not really a comment about Cruise Critic as such..]

But I'll throw it out there just  the same:

Holland America are selling off two of their older ships, ones that, recently have been having problems with engines, air conditioning, plumbing, etc. They're being sold off to P&O. If I had to deal with all the issues that come with taking..for lack of a better word, Holland America's sloppy seconds...I would be..I am so sorry.. P&O'd.

Hopefully P&O are more invested in the upkeep of older ships than Holland America seems to be. Holland America is really struggling to keep up with the Joneses-other cruise lines-in terms of ships with the latest amenities. They're doing that with the Konigsdam which starts sailing next year. It's bigger than any of their previous ships. The announcement that it was going to be  so big really ruffled the feathers of a lot of people at Cruise Critic. A lot of people said that they would not cruise on a ship that big. Hey, nobody's forcing you to go on it, you know.

The newer, cleaner look is a turn-off for a lot of the die-hards that post on Cruise Critic. They like the old-world, wood look that most of the Holland America ships have. The first time I saw pictures of  what the Konigsdam is going to look like, I loved it. I'm *really* glad that Holland America are upping their game and making Konigsdam a game changer.

One does wonder if they did a bit of asking around to see what people wanted from a new Holland America cruise ship, and a lot of people must have said "a cleaner, more modern look". And that is exactly what they're getting with the Konigsdam.

[Rambly and I'm not a bit sorry]

I am at a really good place right now..My nephew is graduating high school in a couple of weeks so I'm flying out there-I'm his godmother, so I kinda gotta be there for such a momentous occasion, you know?

Currently, I'm doing a lot of looking around at things I could do to fill my time-I am not currently working, and I'd kinda like to take classes at a local community college-maybe even  add some volunteering to what I am doing already(my mom and I have done Meals On Wheels for almost 10 years and I love it. I've always said that  when it's not fun for me anymore,I'll say "stop" but it's still fun for me. No, scratch that, it's a joy  to deliver Meals On Wheels to people who need it.

The other thing I want to start up again is going back to counseling.I kinda dropped out of it when I was having my nosebleeds, but in point of fact, having someone to talk to about what was going on would have been tremendously helpful. I probably would still have been stressed and upset about it but that(counseling) would have lessened it some.

Waiting for Kate Middleton to have her baby..can't believe her doctor has allowed her to go so long past her due date, to be honest. It can't be comfortable..George was a pretty big baby, and if this baby is as big as George was, she has to be feeling it.Really hope that she'll just go into labor  without having to induce her.

[The gadget I can't live without]

Surprisingly,it's my Keurig coffee maker. I love it/couldn't live without it to be honest. My iPhone is a close second.

I live by myself, and it makes absolutely no sense for me to make a huge pot of coffee, only to drink  2 or so cups of it and throw the rest away.  Another added bonus is the selection of K Cups-now, me, I like my coffee on the strong side, so lately I've been drinking McDonald's  French Roast McCafe K Cups.

For a while I was addicted to the Costco bold  KCups..I'll probably get burned out on those after a while and switch to something else equally as strong(I have to wake up in the morning..it is crazy how addicted to coffee I am-I get a headache if I don't have coffee or some strong form of caffeine.)

[What I'm watching]

Call The Midwife, especially last night's episode-the second time this show has made me ugly cry this current season.

I found it interesting that(even though they had a vaccine at that point)that diphtheria was still an issue. Most people get vaccinated against it so you don't see it so much in the developed world. Though there was an episode of House where a patient had diphtheria. I just had  a Tetanus/diphtheria/ pertussis(whooping cough) booster recently. The area around where I got the shot on my arm  had a HUGE  bruise on it-a common reaction apparently.

Then there was a storyline with a baby whose bones kept getting  broken. They thought that the parents were abusing their baby. Eventually Dr. Turner figured out that it was Osteogenesis Imperfecta-which they didn't know much about back then-they didn't have the benefit of being able to Google stuff like doctors today do.

Dr. Turner blamed himself for not catching it quicker. He was overworked because he was subbing in for several doctors who decided to go on vacation, so he  had that going, and then he had the situation with the baby who had Osteogenesis Imperfecta, and it was too much. But it was resolved, in a way that was very touching, but then he got to save a life so he was *back*.

Orphan Black is the other show I am loving. I got my dad into it(and to Hannibal too).

[Column A, Column B]

No sailaways this weekend so less of that stuff about "inferior" cruise lines' ships being in the way. Though Noordam was late last weekend..amazed that wasn't blamed on another cruise line. Good to see that the HAL(Holland America) cheerleaders know when to STFU.

The people who make the nasty comments about other cruise lines' ships being in the way need to get the f*** over themselves, IMO.

*People raving about the Dive In restaraunt-I just do not get it-people talk about those burgers like they're seriously the best thing they've ver eaten. I'm a foodie, but I would never elevate a burger to that status.

*The people on the Panama Canal cruise are complaining-to the extent that someone is kind of on the outs with the other people on the cruise because they were complaining(I think it's the same person that was complaining about their kids getting hassled by other, older passengers several times. S/he has complained about several things, and I think it was getting on people's nerves..people on that thread weren't really responding to her.. TBH her claims that her kids were getting hassled is a cry for attention. But that's just me.

Other butt hurts? Being invited(or not)to Captains' cocktail parties. Apparently, things you say on Cruise Critic *are* noted..people think that they are anonymous on Cruise Critic but they're wrong. Holland America knows what peoples' screen names are, because the Captain or crew will say "aren't you(insert real name here)?"

*At one point they left two people at one of the ports and the Captain was gossiping about it at a cocktail party later that evening. That's conduct rather UNbecoming of the captain of a ship, no? To say nothing of which it's idle gossip.Kinda rude that he'd be  turning that into gossip for himself and passengers to laugh at.

There were a zillion different versions of why they missed the ship going around. That doesn't surprise me all that much.

*So..I have some possible cruising news of my own..I am trying to talk my parents into  a Panama Canal cruise next year. It may or may not happen, and I'd rather be vague about the timing for now.

The other interesting aspect of that cruise is that it's a 2-week cruise. A week longer than  I'm used to. There are a lot of sea days(days with no stops) which means I'd have to take a couple of books at the very least. There's always something going on onboard though-it's impossible to be bored!

[My thoughts on those Hannibal spoilers!]

(My thoughts are bolded)

1)We'll get some 007-style action
I immediately thought of the scenes with Hugh and Mads in Florence but there could be other things too.

2)The season premiere Antipasto is about Bedelia Du Marier
So it sounds like we'll be getting some backstory..Pretty sure Zachary Quinto's character is the patient who swallowed his tongue.

3)Hannibal is pining for Will.He wishes Will were there and not Bedelia
The first thought I had was "those two need to get a room already" then "couples therapy, much?" ROFL

4)The food titles will only be up till episode 8-then they'll be from William Blake paintings
I'm glad they're switching it up, to be honest, there's a later spoiler that kinda touches on this.

5)Someone was taking care of Will's dogs whilst he was in the hospital; They say who it is without overtly answering it
I was talking to someone about this and my guess is either Zeller,Freddie Lounds or Margot Verger.

6)Dolarhyde will be a third lead character more than a supporting character.
So we're really going to get into Dolarhyde's background, etc with this version of the story(see the next spoiler)

7)Dolarhyde's story will be a tragedy.
If they stay close to the storyline from the book, which it sounds like they are, then yeah..but I suspect some things will have to be modernized/changed/adapted so I'm curious to see that as well.

8)Bedelia will get some comic moments
Wondering if those comic moments are going to be a coping mechanism when she sees how far down the rabbit hole she's gone with Hannibal.

9)Hannibal and Will's reunion will  be bittersweet.
See spoiler #3. I think initially there will be forgiveness on Will's part anyways. However, once Hannibal is caught and put away, all bets are off. Hannibal is gonna be PISSED.Will is gonna go off and live his life and eventually get married. But then Will will(heh) need Hannibal's help trying to catch Dolarhyde and that's bound to get some old feelings(and hurts) stirred up.

10)There are going to be some very gory episodes, 7 and 12 especially-there is a moment from the book that made the entire crew gasp  while they were filming it.
Pretty sure it involves Freddy/Freddie Lounds..though they may change it up.We'll have to see.

11)If you want to get a sense of what a fourth season of Hannibal would look like, pay close attention to the first seven episodes of Season 3.
TBH, I'd be sad if  certain elements(like Team Sassy Science) went completely away. It keeps things from getting stale.

[S1 Ep9:Trou Normand]

*Totem pole of bodies on a beach in West Virginia. The arms in the middle are posed like Shiva, which, given a reveal later on in the episode, can't be a coincidence.

*Will loses time and winds up at Hannibal's. Hannibal makes a comment about Will being abused which Will quickly refutes. I don't think Hannibal meant it in the way Will was thinking though. Will admits his hallucinations to Hannibal and Hannibal just shines him on for the whole episode-and it doesn't get any better in later episodes this season.

*Abigail is in a support group with all the girls-and Nick Boyle-that she killed. She wakes up..it was all a dream.

*Abigail is talking to Freddie-she  is going to go along with Freddie's plan to write a book about what happened to her.

*Joel Summers is at the top of the totem pole- a place of honour. They speculate that there will be some sort of link between Joel Summers and Fletcher Marshall, the man at the bottom.

*Will is lecturing to his class..but we quickly see that he is talking to himself.Alana walks in in the middle of his "lecture".

*Will and Hannibal find out that Abigail want to write a  a book with Freddie and they try to talk her out of it. Abigail has a typical teenager's reaction.

*Nick Boyle's body is found. Jack wants Abigail to ID his body  but everyone else(especially Alana) thinks it's a bad idea. Jack gets a positive ID but just can't leave well enough alone. Jack doesn't completely believe Abigail, you can tell.

*I have a question:Why is Abigail in a facility where it is SO easy for her to escape?

*Alana seems so sure that Hannibal is a stand-up guy. How things change!

*There is indeed a connection between Fletcher Marshall and Joel Summers;they were father and son;but they weren't. Joel Summers' father was Frank Black  Lawrence Wells. Lawrence had had a affair with Joel's mother;Joel was the result. Fletcher Marshall probably had no idea that Joel wasn't his son.

Laurence posed the arms like Shiva, as I mentioned earlier; Laurence is Joel's destroyer and benefactor(though he had no idea Joel was his son when he killed him and put him in the totem pole.)

Laurence killed Fletcher Marshall, then as a extra f-you killed Fletcher Marshall's son. Except Joel was *his*(Laurence's) son. Congratulations, dipshit. You just killed your own  flesh and blood.

*Will hallucinates Nick Boyle's body coming to life.

*Will knows Abigail killed Nick and Hannibal's like "Yep" and then says that it was self defense. Riight. Hannibal talks Will into not saying anything and says "we are her fathers now". *Murder dad powers activate!*

*Dinner at Hannibal's; I suspect Freddie's dinner wasn't 100% vegetarian, knowing Hannibal :P

*Abigail knows what she's eating is people.

*Abigail helped her father get the victims;we get a flashback to Abigail and her father on the train with Elise Nichols.

Episode insight:

So we have several threads running through this episode;Abigail, who Will and Hannibal deeply care for(even if she does escape from the facility she's at to dig up people she's dug up, and seriously contemplate writing a book with someone that both  Hannibal and Will can barely stand to be around; in any other situation Hannibal would probably consider it rude;but they are her Murder Dads after all.

Then  there's the killer of the week;it seems implausible that someone who is going into a old folks' home would be able to dig up a bunch of bodies and turn them into a totem  pole; but there you go;I have to suspend just a little bit of belief!

Quotes:

My mom always said start with the corners.-Price

I have feelings for you,Will.-Alana

[Doing a separate post for this]

So apparently there are going to be 11, count them 11 new Hannibal spoilers on the DigitalSpy website tomorrow.Considering that we haven't had a lot of on- set pictures and spoilers during the filming of S3, this is *huge*.

I am going to do a separate post about it, probably tomorrow or Sunday.

[It's a small thing,but it helps.]

I just got shutters put in my  front windows and in  the kitchen, and new blinds in my bedroom. It helps SO much!I liked the blinds I had, but the shutters are classing things up..also, they make it much more private-it was kinda easy to see through the blinds-this will be good when I'm trying to avoid the Jehovah's Witnesses, who seem to love my neighbourhood for some reason.)

This is one of several small improvements that've been done to my house. The other(though it's actually quite a big deal) is air conditioning. Most people around here don't have a/c, though it's becoming a lot more common.

The reason for that being that we have been having a lot of hot spells-at times of year when it shouldn't be hot. Our summers have been becoming more hot and more humid as time goes on.Honestly, I can't remember it ever being having been that hot and humid for such an extended period of time. It brings out the insects(flies and cockroaches especially).

Normally, I can get by with with just a window air conditioner, and probably would have, but getting the a/c made sense because we wouldn't have been able to put the shutters put in the front window. So a/c it is!

If we keep getting this hot weather, there will be a lot mote people getting a/c in their houses;there already are-my dad said that the guy who put in my a/c told him there's a waiting list of people who want to get air conditioning.

[This is going to go on for some time if they're not careful]

An update on Cleve and Erica Rengo, the couple who had their kids taken away from them-twice-for many reasons, including domestic violence(though the parents Cleve and Erica claim it's because they had an unassisted-meaning no doctors or medical professionals)home birth. That is not the case at all.

Erica has been told that she has to separate from Cleve if she wants a chance to get her kids back.Cleve's physical abuse is why the cops had been called to their house MANY times and why their kids were taken away.

Erica's gone on several "alternative" radio shows that support her cause. She claims that the breast feeding and home birth, and their desire to cure their oldest son's eczema with natural cures(it wasn't responding to the natural stuff) is why their kids got taken away.To hear her tell it, her kids' health issues have gotten worse since they've been in foster care.

She gets supervised visits with her kids.Given the fact that she's tried to run in the past, that's a good idea.

Erica and Cleve could get their kids back,if they had done as the courts asked..but they didn't, and then ran for it, knowing the kids were going to be taken away(again!)
IMO they have no intention of fixing their situation-they had been living in a 1-bedroom apartment with Cleve's father, who is bipolar but *not* on his meds. Are you kidding me?

Erica claims that her kids' health issues have gotten worse since they were in foster care. One family member has said that one of their twins has permanent health issues as a result of not being checked out by a doctor after they were born.Erica didn't go to the doctor *at all* during her pregnancy..No scans, no nothing. They had no idea they were having twins, who were preemie, without a doubt. They refused the help of a paramedic who was called by a concerned family members after the twins were born.

As the aunt of 5 kids, two of whom were preemies, one of whom required a lot of time in the NICU because of issues related to his being a preemie, this horrifies me.(my nephew is fine now-he's 14 years old- thanks to the doctors at Rady Children's hospital.)

Erica talks about a right for parents to fight  without the cops being called.Well, that is the problem. Cleve was getting physical with her when they fight.

Cleve, to hear it, has been made out to be a bad person, if you believe the websites like Medical Kidnap(who would call concerned family members who called the paramedics "busybodies".) Erica  says that Cleve is not abusive to her. It's clear,to read what she says about Cleve, that she..for lack of a better word, brainwashed by Cleve.

Cleve and Erica have separated, but I don't see it sticking.I think she'll do it long enough to get her kids back, then move him back in on the QT, which will lead to their kids getting taken away(again.)

At the time their kids were given back to them, late last year, I said "Mark my words. We haven't heard the last of them". Sure enough, a bit later they were in the news because they tried to run for it..their kids were about to be taken away from them. They claim they weren't trying to run for it,that they were taking a break from the stresses of their situation. Riiight.

The courts and authorities need to discern if Cleve and Erica are truly vested in getting their kids back.. are they just going to have them keep given back, only for  something to go wrong-or go *really* wrong. That's my concern. With Cleve being physical with her, and Cleve's father(who they live with) being bipolar, that's just waiting for something bad to happen.

[Only just getting this in on Sunday]

I had one specific thing that I wanted to talk about and now it's the end of the day and I can't really be bothered, so I had to think on my feet a bit.

Oh!I tried a new recipe from a Cooking With Trader Joe's cookbook..Go Go Mango chicken.Literally all it was was mangoes, pineapple salsa and chicken breast.Really really good.

You don't have to use ingredients from Trader Joe's(for those not familiar, Trader Joe's is a specialty grocery store. It's known for having good prices and a really good selection of a lot of different things),but there are some things that are specific to Trader Joe's that you can only get there.

One upside of the Trader Joe's cookbooks is that the recipes are relatively easy-I am not a big fan of recipes that have a ton of ingredients and a ton of steps.Simplicity is a good thing where cooking is concerned.

Mind you, you're reading the blog of someone who has several of her favourite recipes memorised(Shepherd's Pie comes right to mind-it's easy to make.I've actually made a tweak to it in the past few years-I use fresh, sauteed mushrooms instead of jarred mushrooms which-for some reason-are difficult to find. The fresh sauteed mushrooms taste so much better in there, in my opinion.(I also use Durkee onions-like what you put on top of green bean casserole) because I hate cutting onions.

[same old same old]

*The bitching about other-non Holland America ships "being in the way" on the Cruise Critic Hal boards and-worst of all, leaving before HAL ships. Oh the humanity. All I can say is:Get over yourselves. I could  do without all their unflattering names for other cruise lines' ships, too.

*Then, someone was upset because there was a Sail Away but no HAL ships.

*Someone doing a 3 week Panama Canal cruise is upset because a fellow passenger was rude to one of her kids.I doubt it happened. Not that I think it doesn't happen but the way she described it-someone said "Little children don't belong on cruise ships" or something to that effect-was so incredibly over the top. And maybe I'm a bit naive, but oh well.

Then, it happened again. And she's gotten several other comments and stink eye from other fellow passengers. That's what makes me think it might be her trying to get attention.Which she gets a lot of-along with "Oh, I'm so sorry that this is happening to you and your kids". *sigh* this is gonna be a long 3 weeks.

*Good lord..there was a "if only HAL would do away with formal nights" thread. Oh shit. This is a controversial statement(that's putting it mildly..)Secondly, the OP(original poster) talks about other cruise lines. Some of whom have all but done away with formal  nights. This works the pro-formal night people on the HAL boards into a frenzy because some of them are holding onto formal night and b) it's a personal attack on Holland America. This gets the OP called a shill for other cruise lines. He *did* have a few people agreeing with him so there is that at least.

Comparison threads(HAL vs.(insert name of inferior cruise line here) turn into a whole discussion of why Holland America is so much better than every other cruise line out there. *eyeroll*

(if anyone from Cruise Critic wants to comment on anything I've said, feel free;but know that I pre-screen comments before I post them. If I think they pass muster,I will respond to them. If not,I..won't.

*By the way, both of the HAL ship discussion blogs(which are also on Blogger) were made private. The plot thickens.

[S1 Ep8:Fromage]

*Will hears noises..but his dogs are just chilled out.

*Tobias-nah, he's not evil at all..oh wait, yes he is.This is the guy who makes strings out of human guts. *totally* psycho.

*Will calls Alana to see if she hears anything(she doesn't.)

*Franklyn thinks Tobias is a psychopath-he's right.Oh and Franklyn? Tobias "joking" about killing people should be a HUGE freaking red flag.

*Guy turned into a human cello(I could have done without some of the close-ups.. *shudder*.

*Will recreates the crime and sees Garret Jacob Hobbs in the audience.

*Hannibal has a session with Bedelia-they talk about Franklyn.

*I love the "Oh-kayy" look that Price gets on his face after Will leaves the morgue.

*Hannibal pays Tobias a visit-he knows Franklyn is right. We get a mention of Hannibal having a theremin(which we actually saw in S2)

*Will is tying flies-and he hears the noises again-in the chimney. His dogs are like "whatcha doin', daddy?".Will takes apart the chimney(the  resultant hole looks like the wound of the human cello victim which can't be a coincidence.)

*Alana stops by and Will kisses he.So what does he do next?He drives all the way to Balti-freaking-more to tell Hannibal!

*Hannibal is just finishing dinner with Tobias.Hannibal asks him outright if he killed someone.Turns out that Tobias knows that Hannibal is a cannibal.

*Will gets to Hannibal's; tells him about kissing Alana-and about the noises. Hannibal sends Will into danger by telling him about Tobias.

*Will goes to Tobias' shop;Tobias knows the game us up;just then Will hears something and runs out in the street. This gives Tobias a chance to kill the police who are there to arrest Tobias;in one sense it's a good thing that Will had that happen when he did otherwise he would have met the same fate as the cops.

There's a very SOTL(Silence Of The Lambs)-esque scene in the basement of Tobias' shop. Will gets off a shot.

*Meanwhile, Franklyn is getting the "It's you. It's all you" speech from Hannibal to tell Franklyn he's referring him to a new psychiatrist.

Tobias shows up and Franklyn gets his neck broken. Tobias is a scrapper, but Hannibal uses his cannibal-fu and kills Tobias, too. And then just cleans it up like it ain't no thing.

*Jack isn't 100% buying it-he senses something isn't quite right. When Will shows up-after Jack leaves, Will is like "you need a hug?" Pretty much. LOL

*Presumably Hannibal took some time off after that happened-he tells Bedelia he is going to start seeing patients again, so he's taken some considerable time off.

Episode insight:

Hannibal has a lot to contend with this week-with Franklyn, who I think has wanted to get ride of as a patient from the first time that they had a session together.

But seriously, Franklyn:If you suspect that your friend is a psychopath, excuse my language but.. you need to go to the fucking police!

Franklyn takes completely the wrong tact: he goes to his shrink(i.e. Hannibal) and asks him what he thinks of the situation. This winds up getting them both killed. *golf clap*

Hannibal is a little shit in this episode though;putting Will in harm's way by sending him to Tobias' shop.Bad Hannibal.Very bad Hannibal!

We've had minor Will hallucinations/nightmares/dreams but they are starting to get ramped up-audio hallucinations now, and he actually *admits* that he knows they are just in his head.

Quotes:

I had to open you up to get a decent sound out of you.-Will

She's very kissable.-Will

[You never forget your first..concert that is!]

31 years ago, I was at my first concert-Duran Duran, at the San Diego Sports Arena. It was a big deal because it was Duran Duran, and also because it was my first concert. It almost didn't happen-this concert, and two in the Bay Area, were tacked on at the end of a very long tour.I don't think it was promoted very well-because I only found out about it at the last minute.

The tickets we got weren't the best..they weren't quite in the back row, but getting close :P Still, I could have cared less. I was seeing Duran Duran, a band I loved at the time, in concert. Plus I was with my peers, other people that liked Duran Duran(mostly..I suspect some people there were talked into going as chaperones and whatnot, like my brother was ;) )

See, I didn't know a lot of people that liked Duran Duran. My parents and one or two of my teachers(especially my teacher Paula, who'd been a Beatles fan back in the day and got it) put up with how much of a fangirl I was(and OMG I REALLY was.)

To my parents' credit they didn't try to stifle me-I think they figured that I would grow out of it(which I did, eventually.) The rest of my teachers barely tolerated my being a Duran Duran fan-I'm sure if they knew some of the things(none of them bad-like taking my Walkman into the bathroom when a new Duran Duran song was played on the radio-yes,I did that.More than once! And my teachers never figured it out-if they had known I am 500% positive that they would have flipped their shit bigtime.)

I recognise now that Duran Duran were taking precedence over my homework..teachers told my parents this and my parents did the polite nod and basically all I got was "try to concentrate on your schoolwork a bit more". No judgements.

[Getting serious for a moment]

I am really surprised we haven't heard more stories like this but here's something I saw on the ID(Investigation Discovery) channel and I was watching it with my jaw on the freaking ground.

A woman bought a house-a bit of a fixer-upper..a little bit after she moves in this guy starts harassing her. Turns out the guy had lived there;he had beat his wife and wound up going to prison; his wife sold the house and got the hell out of town; the house changed hands several times;every owner of the house had had dealings with the former owner(and wound up moving..big shocker there.)

The man couldn't let go of the fact that the house wasn't his anymore, and he proceeded to make the woman's life a misery-he tried to have the woman thrown out of the house-never mind that she was the owner of the house, she had bought it.

When the former owner tried to have her thrown out of her house, she went to the cops who basically shrugged their shoulders and said "Nothin' we can do about it". With all due respect, I have a hard time believing that.

Her fighting it just made things worse, and the guy kept escalating things..anyhow, long story short he escalated it to the point that she shot him.Killed him. And she was arrested and charged with murder-albeit briefly. When the cops realised that she had been defending herself charges were dropped.

I have the utmost respect for the police, but I think there was a lot of miscommunication going on-I'm wondering why the police were so reluctant to look into  what was going on.She owned the house fair and square-how is it possible that the former owner-who hadn't lived there for *many* years, was able to pull rank like that-and have the police completely on his side? It's be-freakingzarre.

[It'll be worth it]

I couldn't really think of anything else so here you go:

This HeAteUs(Fannibal  Hiatus) has d-r-a-g-g-e-d on. BUT.. it's almost over.As of tomorrow it's 50 days.

It seems like they were just announcing an air date for S3 and now we're getting closer and closer to S3.

Much credit has to be given to my fellow Fannibals. They are the best support system. We're *all* ready for S3.. we keep each other entertained..I've been in several fandoms but I've never seen such a supporting fandom as we are.

We go out of our way to help out when one of our own is hurt, as  what happened with a fan on Twitter recently.

I find that Twitter has been a good way(especially with my new account-I ditched my old one late last year) to talk to other fans, meet new fans, and oh yeah..interact with people connected with the show(Bryan Fuller's live chats during S2 were a particular highlight.) I'm hoping there's more of that, especially from the cast.

Another thing that helps is getting spoilers, but we haven't have a lot of those;however there *is* an Art And Making Of Hannibal book that is due to be released next month.

Also:the Shirtpunch Hannibal themed shirts. I'm guessing we'll get a few of those either before or during(or both) S3. They are my weakness! For one thing. I like most of the designs, and the price ($10) is affordable(though hoodies are a little more expensive.) Glad that Shirt Punch is doing the shirts because NBC doesn't seem particularly fussed about getting Hannibal (swiggity) swag out there!

["uncatergorised" is right.]

*I don't really want to speak on the situation, in case I'm completely off..maybe I'll feel like talking about it in a few days..but  a spy who's on the inside would be helpful  here. I'll leave it at that.

*Health update:3 weeks and still no nosebleeds!

*I have free HBO-thought it was just for the weekend-they're trying to rope people in because the new season of Game Of Thrones started last night.

*2 Season 3 of Hannibal things I forgot from the other day: 1) There was a tweet from Martha De Laurentiis where they were editing episode 12 and Hannibal was in civilian(ie not prison) clothes. Then, there was a picture of Mads Mikkelsen with a writer from TVGuide. Someone pointed out it was a big-time spoiler(hard to explain if you've not read the books/seen the movies..)

[Hannithoughts:The Hannithoughtaclypse]

*Walter(Will's stepson's) real dad is dead/out of the picture. I'm wondering if they'll have him have died when Walter was quite young and have a parallel to Will not knowing his mom?

*Kade Purnell is going to try to go after Jack and Will but it'll backfire on her.Which brings me to:

*Someone speculated that Bedelia could  have be working for the FBIwhich is a little bit of a stretch *but* it would be quite the mindscrew-I'll go a step further and guess that Will and Jack find this out. Possibly it was something Kade was trying to keep secret..and in order to shut Kade up they hold it over her head.

On a related note, it seems as if Pazzi will have had dealings with Hannibal in the past.

*Bryan Fuller has said that Will will be a a "Frankenstein's monster"-he essentially died at the end of S2.So I would  not at all be surprised  if there is a scene in S3 Ep. 4 where Will nearly dies on the operating table and is brought back from the dead.

H:The end of the Sail Away threads on Cruise Critic's HAL(Holland America) boards is ending(for a few months. Not sure if I'll keep doing Cruise Critic posts or if I'll do something else(like creative writing.)

N:I've been meaning to do an update on a few things I've blogged about in the past,so there's that.

H:I may do a giveaway for S3(on Twitter only)..pretty sure I know what I want to give away as prizes.

N:I want to see this movie called A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night. It's an Iranian Spaghetti Western vampire movie(in Farsi) that was actually filmed in California. The titular character is a burqua wearing, skateboarding vampire. Yes.

A good vampire movie(if you haven't seen it) is Let The Right One In. It's a Swedish vampire movie and it is REALLY good(OMG the pool scene.. I'll just leave it at that.Anyone who's seen the movie knows what I'm talking about!)

N:My mom sent me a picture of the lunar eclipse that she clipped from the paper. She knows I get nerdy about stuff like that! :)

[S1 Ep6:Entree]

*Abel Gideon attacking the nurse. We don't see it-it's more suggested-well, more about that in a minute, actually.

*Chilton is such an ass-yeah, why *was* the nurse alone with Gideon..seems dumb.

*You can see why Will would come to hate Chilton when he(Will) was in the BSHCI(Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally insane)

*Will's recreation of the nurse's death is one of the most disturbing things I have ever seen(and  this is Hannibal we're talking about!)especially him poking her eyes out(see also:Takiwase.)

*We get a flashback to Miriam, who is very eager to please(much like Clarice..)

*Turns out that Alana is somewhat familiar with Gideon(she's interviewed him before.)

*Jack shows up at Hannibal's office claiming he was in the neighbourhood *cough*Bullshit*cough* despite appearances in Episode 5, he's busting Hannibal's balls..Jack has forgotten about the concept of,oh I don't know.. doctor-patient confidentiality? Hannibal, shockingly, is the voice of reason here.

*We get another flashback with Jack and Miriam, who says of the Chesapeake Ripper "He's exotic somehow". NAILED IT.

*Jack is getting phone calls from Miriam..well a recording of her done(they think) before she was killed.Of course she was revealed to be very much live in S2. Gideon knows about Miriam(so he's not on media lockdown whilst he's in there..)

*Will hallucinates the nightmare stag.

*Jack decides to bait the Ripper(the REAL one,) by  talking to Freddie. Will can barely stands to be in the same room with her.

The article pisses Hannibal off. We see him reading the story on the National Tattler website with a "I am going to cut a bitch" look on his face.

*After another call from Miriam, Jack's house gets dusted for prints-they find a hair that is Miriam's.

*Dinner at Hannibal's with Alana and Chilton. They talk about psychic driving and how Chilton may have psychic drove Gideon. It's something that Hannibal is not opposed to.

*The clues lead them to a creepy observatory where they find Miriam's arm holding a cell phone and there is a note that says "what do you see?"

*The final flashback with Miriam is her going to to Hannibal's to follow up on a lead.Whilst she is there she sees Hannibal's drawing of the Wound Man(if you don't know what it is, Google it.Adding that for the benefit of any non-Fannibals reading this).Hannibal comes up behind her and chokes her.

Later we see Jack at Hannibal's talking about Miriam. Hannibal seems sad about it, but is he *really*?

Episode insight:

This is a very Jack-centric episode..Jack dealing with his feelings about Bella's cancer-he wants to talk to her about it but she's not really letting him..and what's more, she's going to Hannibal-knowing full well that he can't divulge anything that's said in their sessions.

We also have Jack feeling guilty about getting Miriam killed(or so he thinks..)The flashbacks and dream/nightmares(dreamares?) are a manifestation of how guilty/freaked out he is by it.

Quotes:

The effect I was hoping to have was her death. Mission accomplished.-Abel Gideon.

I see the Ripper, but I don't *feel* the Ripper.-Will

Here we are.. a bunch of psychopaths helping each other out.-Freddie Lounds.

[Cruise Critic posters probably read this and think "do I sound like that?" Yeah, you do]

*Waves*

There was a murder-suicide on the Ryndam..and of course on the thread about it on Cruise Critic someone had to get a shot in at Jim Walker from the Cruise Law website who has the most accurate reporting on these sorts of things.

The comments on Jim Walker's website are very telling-obviously the people are HAL(Holland America) cheerleaders/Cruise Critic posters.

Take this comment for example:

"Princess is just another horrible Carnival owned cruise line". Erm..So is HAL. NEXT!

And this(regarding a similar incident on a Royal Caribbean ship):"Refreshing to see there was a suspected crime scene left intact.Perhaps RCCL(Royal Caribbean Cruise Line) can learn a lesson from HAL on this one"."Petty" doesn't even begin to describe it. JFC.

*Sail aways are almost over for a few months. You can tell it annoys the shit out of them when "another" ship(from a "inferior" cruise line- i.e. NOT Holland America) leaves before "their" HAL ships. *eyeroll*.

*posters on the HAL(Holland America) boards are fixated on certain things-food  for one one thing. I wonder what people are thinking that they think the room service club sandwich(which has shitty processed cold cuts instead of the real thing-way to cheap out Holland America-for a cruise line that talks about "Standards Of Excellence-that's pretty low standards right there if you ask me) is The!Best!Thing! They've!Ever!Eaten! In!Their!Life! Really? *shakes head*.

[Monday random]

*I got my haircut at Great Clips. Normally, I go to Supercuts but I was closer to Great Clips, so.. Also? $20.Exactly.Plus a couple dollars for a tip.

*Easter was  lot of fun-I  got to see my niece and her boyfriend, which was nice. And it was just really good company(we also had my sister-in-law's sister and her son and friends of my brother and his wife's there as well.)

*Ride, the shoegazer band are playing Coachella this year.

Hmm. The last time they toured the band was falling apart(which I only found out after the fact-I saw them on one of their last tours and it was pretty evident the band was coming apart)

In any case, their drummer isn't the original drummer(who I met back in the day..and again..he was in a pissy mood- when I read that the band were having a lot of issues on that tour it made perfect sense)

*Man, Call The Midwife is  bringing the awesome this season-only 2 episodes in! We've been introduced  to several new characters- Nurse Crane, who we met in last night's episode, and Nurse Barbara.

[This is why old school Catholics hate Pope Francis]

Today when I went to Mass with my dad they made everyone wear a nametag so they could use everyone's name when they went up for Communion. It's also a great way to get to know people(there are always a lot of people from out of town especially on Christmas and Easter.)

I dunno if this is is a all-church edict, but it's the sort of thing that old school Catholics(the ones who want to go back to the Latin Mass, and want the Mass to be more austere(IOW NO music during the Mass unless absolutely necessary and probably no Sign Of Peace) hate.

Pope Francis has been  really good for the church..he is much more forward thinking that Pope Benedict was-Pope Benedict, who wanted to send the church back in the past.

You'd be surprised how many people *liked* that Pope Benedict was so old school. And they HATED that Pope Francis was elected.I mean, there are whole blogs dedicated to hating on Pope Francis(the Rorate Caeli  blog is the worst-they make the people who hate on Obama look like pikers-and in fact, Rorate Caeli  has been called out by other Catholic bloggers for the stuff they've said about Pope Francis.)

Let's be absolutely clear about this:The Rorate people are a small(although they always claim there are a lot of them) subsect(verging on being-yes,I am going to use the word-a cult.)They do not represent ALL Catholics.

My dad(who is in his mid 70's and remembers the days before Vatican II very well) says Vatican II was the best thing that happened to the church-you have to remember that that happened in the early  60's-and this was a time when things were changing very rapidly. It was definitely what the church needed just then.

There is a church out in Rancho Santa Fe(a VERY  well to do neighbourhood) which is kind of like that. I dunno if they don't do certain things, but the couple of times that I've been there I decided that I don't like it-it's too sterile for me-whereas the church I usually go to-which is around the corner from my parents' house-is more comfortable-it doesn't put on any airs at all-there are lots of families-which is why they have a crying room( a soundproofed room at the back of the church) for families with babies and toddlers.

[spending a night outside was fun!]

Last night I camped out in my parents' yard(by the pool, in fact) so I could watch the lunar eclipse. I was worried about a) missing it and b) not being warm enough. Neither of those two things were a problem-I had a air bed which I put a blanket on top of, then a comforter, then another blanket. And I was wearing pajama pants. It was plenty cold last night, though!

I slept in a tent-a kids' pop up tent-it was what I could find at short notice but it worked fine!

As far as being able to wake up in time goes..I set the alarm on my iPhone for 2 a.m. Woke up at 2 a.m. and nothing.Set it for 4 a.m. and by then it had definitely started. So I did get to see the eclipse which I was VERY pleased with.

Now though, I want to go camping. Proper camping, like at the campground. I wouldn't call what I did  this morning camping, because it wasn't really roughing it-I had easy access to a bathroom, for example.

I just think that sometimes you have to go out of your comfort zone and try something new, and that's exactly what I did.

[S1 Ep7:Sorbet(my favourite episode!)]

*I'll talk a bit more about the beginning of the episode in a second but initially it's assumed there is one Ripper-but then they're called to the crime secene at the hotel.Never mind that the MO's seem to be slightly different(Devon Silvestri is doing it for one reason(which is never specified but *could* he have been involved with black market organ transplanting?). Hannibal is doing his killing because the  victims pissed him off.

*Sounders of three-he sees his victims as pigs. Will says "He's consistently theatrical" which segues into..

*vocal chords, which zooms out and it's a opera singer. I am struck by the colours in this scene-red, and white, and wood, and the gold of the opera singer's dress.

*The opera singer is performing at The Concert For Hunger Relief. LOL

*We get a close up of Hannibal's ear. It's interesting to note that the music is VERY loud in the mix.I  think it's very much deliberate.

*Hannibal talks to Mrs. Komeda(I always have to LOL that her name sounds like comida, the Spanish word for food.)

*Franklyn is SO stalking Hannibal.

*Jack is having nightmares about Miriam.

*"Any more phone calls,Jack?" "Why yes.."

*Crime scene at the hotel-I would have hated to have been the person that found the body.. "Houskeep..OH SHIT!!"

*The victim did not have a good death(that's putting it mildly..)

*Will sees the nightmare stag is his recreation.Funny that he sees it there because Hannibal clearly did NOT commit that murdder-the stag  represents Hannibal in Will's subconscious.

*Will deduces that the killer was trying to save the guy's life  but screwed up.

*Sherlock shout-out with Will closing the door on Zeller :)

*Hannibal has a session with Franklyn.  Hannibal would prefer it if work and pleasure(he ran into Framklyn at the opera) separate.

*Then we see Hannibal with his psychiatrist. That's such an interesting relationship. Co-dependent for sure.

*We have a flashback to Hannibal getting his blood drawn by an insurance agent...who is about to become dinner.

*BAU scene with Team Sassy Science and Will alternating with Hannibal in his kitchen doing prepwork for his next dinner party.

*Body parts are compared to USB cables(I love that!)

*Alana is hanging out with Hannibal and drinking his beer(which we now know was NOT Beeriam Lass.)

*Alana wants everyone to leave Will alone(this, in hindsight..)

*Jack is having nightmares about dead armless Will coming back to life.

*Le veau de or

*Franklyn gives himself away by admitting he goes to the same places Hannibal does. But that he didn't say anything to Hannibal because he didn't want to make him uncomfortable.

*Will is late for his appointment with Hannibal. Hannibal is upset. We get a soundtrack of Mozart's Lacrimosa which goes into  Will's  dream(nightmare?)

*"Dad?" "Yes?" "There's someone else here". Interesting that Abigail calls Will "Dad" in his nightmare.

*Beverly figures out  how  the killer of the week is doing his organ harvesting-time to round up Will and Hannibal.

*Hannibal: "This is very educational". OK Hannibal...calm your tits.

*"Show me your hands" "He'll die". Fair point, but they *do* just happen to have a doctor there. Will sees Hannibal trying to fix Devon Silvestri's handiwork and you can see his mind going a mile a minute-he's *just* starting to figure it out but he doesn't.

*Hannibal saved Devon Silvestri's patient/victim.

*Hannibal's dinner party- "Nothing here is vegetarian". You don't say!

Episode insight:

For some reason,I was remembering that the second time I watched this that it goes right into the opera scene(it doesn't).It's a much better set up for the episode to have Will talking about the Ripper case then it goes into the opera scene.

What strikes me about the opera scene is how it was filmed-you could say that of the entire episode-indeed of the whole series!

I've always wondered how they got that shot of the vocal chords-in the script which is online it says that it's stock footage. But I kinda doubt it.It makes sense if they were going to do that with a real person that they would do it someone who was REALLY an opera singer.

The other scene that is very striking is Will's nightmare with Abigail.

Jack is feeling responsible for Miriam going missing-to the point where he's not  the only one having nightmares.

He sent Miriam into a certain situation thinking that she would be OK..but he sent her to her(presumed) death. And he has to live with that.

Jack's had a lot put on him in S2-it will be interesting to see what everyone's dynamic with Jack is-and for that matter, with each other!

We never found out what Devon Silvestri's motive( MOTIVE!!) for doing what he did was. He was trying to get practise, certainly but aren't there better ways to go about that?

I can see why he chose the places he did though. The hotel made sense, as did the ambulance-though both of those went a bit wrong.

The people Hannibal kills..Hannibal feels that they would be better off as dinner(the moral of the story?don't piss Hannibal off.)

Whereas Devon Silvestri,  meant well, and tried to save the life of the guy in the hotel room only for it to go horribly wrong.

It's amazing to me that people never(until midway through S2) questioned where Hannibal gets his food from.

Hannibal and Franklyn don't want to be alone. There's a paralel  there in that they have friends, but they don't want to be alone.Someone to latch on to-in Hannibal's case it's Will.In Franklyn's case it's Hannibal. Both Hannibal and Franklyn have their neuroses-we see that when Franklyn is in his session with Hannibal and Hannibal's sessions with Bedelia.

There  is some commonality with Will as well-a lack of family(Will may or may not have family-Dad?Cousin?Aunts?Uncles? somewhere.Hannibal has Chiyoh, but who knows how much he talks to/sees her.

Quotes:

It's a dinner party, not a unicorn.-Mrs. Komeda

"Yes"  I think is the answer to that.-Will

He was removing his kidney.Poorly.-Hannibal.

[Holland America wish theirs-their ships-were bigger but won't admit it]

*A Royal Caribbean bashing thread(what a big shocker there!) but there were a few people defending Royal Caribbean and saying that it's not for everyone but it is good for families(especially the largest ships which have a lot(ice skating, climbing walls, etc.) that kids like.

Eventually, I think Holland America will wind up having a mega ship built, just so they can keep up with other cruise lines and their ships-and they'll market it more to families.

That's not to say that Holland America isn't kid friendly-it is.(I always have said that if Holland America did not want kids on their ships then they wouldn't puts kids/teen clubs on their ships.

It always annoys me when I see people try to discourage people with kids from cruising on Holland America;unfriendly much?  The number of kids on any given Holland America cruise can vary wildly depending on the time of  year.

Sometimes though it's just out and out hostility to anyone with kids. And people wonder why Holland America  cruisers get stereotyped as being mostly old people(not true-there have always been a few kids on the Holland America cruises we've been on.)

I don't think that the posters on the Holland America boards at Cruise Critic accurately reflect actual Holland America cruisers. Not.Even.Close.Though some of the diehards would LOVE  to think that that is the case. These are some of the people that are right there suggesting that people with kids try another cruise line(I wish I could say I was exaggerating but I'm not.)

There are some  subjects(dress code for one) that are certain people's berserk button.Kids on HAL cruises are others. For a while there were a lot of grammar posts(never mind that it is a huge-ass no-no to correct peoples' grammar-people do it anyhow.)

[ My friend Jimmy on Twitter inspired this post :)]

We were talking about music from back in the day and that got me all nostalgic about all of the music(and other things too!) from back then.

My parents(and me too) were early adopters. We were one of only a few people that had a VCR-a behemoth-I remember a lot of discussion about where it should go-there wasn't a lot of space around where the TV was.

Yes, I remember the whole VHS vs. Beta debate.I also remember Laserdiscs being a big deal back in the day too(Lou's Records in Encinitas-close to where I live-sometimes has laserdiscs.)

I got really good at taping stuff(I would put in a blank tape and tape hours and hours of MTV. I remember it saving my life one time when I had to go to  youth group at church and miss a Duran Duran special that was on TV. I had to watch it later, which I wasn't happy about. Given the choice between the youth group and Duran Duran, do I have to tell you which one I would take?

We also  had one of the first Apple computers. a squat, beige thing that had no memory. I  mean, it was all on discs, and just writing a report for school, or a letter, took up a LOT of  it(more than you would think, actually!)

Back when my parents moved into their current house, they got cable. Understand, this was basic cable. We had a cable box and you had to get up and change the channels yourself(I seem to remember it was a cable box with a dial on the front of it.)

Of course, my dad would only pay for the most basic cable, but we got MTV, which was all that mattered to me :) For a while, we got free Cinemax because of a screw up.(The coolest kids were the ones whose parents shelled out extra money to get HBO or any of the other channels.)
