We were talking about music from back in the day and that got me all nostalgic about all of the music(and other things too!) from back then.
My parents(and me too) were early adopters. We were one of only a few people that had a VCR-a behemoth-I remember a lot of discussion about where it should go-there wasn't a lot of space around where the TV was.
Yes, I remember the whole VHS vs. Beta debate.I also remember Laserdiscs being a big deal back in the day too(Lou's Records in Encinitas-close to where I live-sometimes has laserdiscs.)
I got really good at taping stuff(I would put in a blank tape and tape hours and hours of MTV. I remember it saving my life one time when I had to go to youth group at church and miss a Duran Duran special that was on TV. I had to watch it later, which I wasn't happy about. Given the choice between the youth group and Duran Duran, do I have to tell you which one I would take?
We also had one of the first Apple computers. a squat, beige thing that had no memory. I mean, it was all on discs, and just writing a report for school, or a letter, took up a LOT of it(more than you would think, actually!)
Back when my parents moved into their current house, they got cable. Understand, this was basic cable. We had a cable box and you had to get up and change the channels yourself(I seem to remember it was a cable box with a dial on the front of it.)
Of course, my dad would only pay for the most basic cable, but we got MTV, which was all that mattered to me :) For a while, we got free Cinemax because of a screw up.(The coolest kids were the ones whose parents shelled out extra money to get HBO or any of the other channels.)
