[S2 Ep1: Kaiseki]

*The first part of S2 is the textbook definition of "it got worse".

*The showdown in the kitchen is balls.to.the.wall.

*Murasaki reference!

*Will's memory palace-fly fishing--of course. But that damn Nightmare Stag shows up!

*Will is trying to block out Chilton(can't say I blame him-if I were Will,I would too! :P)There was a really good fic where Chilton was doing all sorts of unethical shit to Will.

*Will wants to talk to Hannibal..how about.. NO. Actually, how about HELL NO.

*Kade Purnell(Ugh..hoping that she gets called out bigtime in S3)

*The people soup-guh-ross!(right up there with the mushroom people, TBH)

*Hannidelia- their relationship is so interesting to me.She tells Hannibal "You are obsessed with Will Graham". No.Shit.

*Will sees Hanni's shadow as a deer's leg/hoof. Unsubtle and unsettling. And Will's inner voice sounds like Hannibal's. That damn gaslighting. And he does it to Will whilst he's in the mental hospital.Lovely.

*Hannibal at the BAU is the proverbial fox in the henhouse-at this point they don't suspect him. Hannibal gaslights Team Sassy Science, too.

*Alana takes Will's dogs back to his house-which I'm glad to see-they need to have that normalcy..but Winston goes back there on his own..He's  very sensitive..on a level with his owner.

*Alana hypnotises Will-Chilton listens in. Alana hypnotises Will-the light bar thing that Alana has is supposed to evoke the light beam Will sees when he recreates crimes. Alana turns into inky!Alana- freaky!

*Roland Umber gets abducted-that's a well-used trope but Hannibal manages to do it quite well.

*Bev goes to visit Will(without telling Jack first, who would *definitely* yell at her if she told him what she was going to do) and Will figures out that the people represent a colour palette.

*Will is eating salisbury steak(gotta love institutional food) when he remembers what happened to him. That is one of the hardest scenes to watch.Like ever. And this is Hannibal we're talking about!

*Will is in his happy place but gets interrupted by Jack. GDI jack, can't you let Will have his happy place? JFC.

*The mural victim is very..attached.(sorry, not sorry. Us Fannibals LOVE our puns.)

Quotable:

Will: I'm going to remember, Dr. Lecter. And when I do,there will be a reckoning.

Beverly:You're not a suspect. You're the new Will Graham

Will: You may not believe me now.. but you will.

[every day is halloween]

I've used that subject line every year. It's become something of a tradition, if you will.I love Halloween. It's so much different than when I was a kid, though. We'd go out for a long time and in a not very well lit area. I doubt my parents(if I was a kid now) would let me do that,

Looking at pictures of me as a kid, I can tell what year it was because of the costumes-my brother is Darth Vader? it's 1977.

My favourite Halloween candy(in no particular order)

Reese's peanut butter cups

Peanut M&M's

Milky Way

Twix

[sad, but a must-see at the same time]

I wanted to do a separate post just about  this..whilst I was in Oklahoma City I went to the Bombing Memorial museum. A very sad part of history, but one well worth seeing if you are ever in Oklahoma City.

You go to the top floor and it shows how it was just a normal day, almost 20 years ago(April 19th 1995). Then you walk into a room which represents a similar room where a meeting was going on right across the street from the Murrah building. You hear the recording of the meeting, then all of a sudden there's an explosion and they flash up pictures of all of the victims.

Then you go  to the second floor and it takes you through the minutes, hours, and days after the bombing, the investigation and the arrest of Timothy VcVeigh and Terry Nichols.

What's jarring is the effects-glasses,purses and the like-recovered from the rubble. They have a clock that is permanently frozen at 9:02, the exact moment of the bombing.

There's a lookout point where you can stand and look at the memorial-a chair for each person who died.

[one silkwood shower, please]

I had notes for this, but this is the sort of thing that I do better when I sort of do it off the top of my head, and for that reason, it's going to be a bit all over the place.I'm so sorry.

The TL:DR version of the story is this:Emily Rose, who is part of the Supernatural fandom, got kicked out of a con(convention). Her crime?A tweet of hers that was a pop culture reference. Said tweet was taken to the bodyguard of two of the show's actor's. It was perceived as a threat,

To be fair, the bodyguard was just doing his job(and I agree with the people that say we shouldn't send him hate). But the fact that they didn't do their due dillegence before acting in the manner they did is disturbing.

However, the back story behind this(that it was some fellow fans who have a beef with Emily that did this) I find disturbing. The bodyguard(and the organisers of the con) just assumed that she was a threat-and she wasn't! The convention organisers have claimed that they are "looking into it" and that they will make some sort of statement eventually. They know they're guilty, and don't want to admit it..they're trying to stall whilst they think of some way to spin this that doesn't make them look like douchebags. I want to hear the bodyguard's side of the story.

Oh and another thing? This *isn't* the first(or the last) time that the Supernatural fandom has gone a bit 'splodey(and probably won't be the last, either.)

Emily has some unorthodox opinions about ships, which has made her a lot of enemies.I don't mind shippers(hell,I'm a Hannigram shipper, but I don't make a big deal about it.

The time when it becomes a problem is when it starts affecting the show(House had Huddy shippers, who made it impossible to enjoy the show at a certain point. If you didn't like Huddy, it was like GTFO of the fandom. Really. And when the writers of the show ended that ship,it was like a cyber- angry mob with pitchforks. And they're still upset about it 3 years later. I can understand it when it initially happened, but holding a grudge? for that long? However, that's just my opinion/take on it and your mileage may vary.

[weekend report(with added thursday content)]

Thursday: I flew to Oklahoma City. Can i just say that the TSA pre-screening(where you don't have to take your shoes off, etc.) is the best thing ever? I got to Oklahoma City, hung out with him and my sister-in-law and bonded with her Frenchie Clarence.

Then we went over to my sister-in-law's parents' house so my brother could open his birthday gifts(it was his birthday). For dinner we went to a place called The Ranch which was a very high-end steak house.

Friday: My brother and I went to Panera. Then we went to the mall so I could pick out a Christmas present at Pandora(the charm store) I hung out at the mall for a few hours then came home. Dinner was at Kevin Durant(a basketball player for the OKC Thunder)'s restaraunt. It was really nice-they have menus that light up when you open them. I ordered honey chicken which came with cheese grits which were delicious. And since we were in the neighbourhood we had to hit up Bass Pro Shops.

Saturday:Panera(again), and Sam's Club. Later on(since I'd never been there and wanted to go to a museum) we checked out the Oklahoma City Bombing museum. It's a must-see.
My sister-in-law tried her hand at making pretzels which turned out really good. Dinner was home-cooked(chops). Then we watched 3 episodes of Hannibal which they really liked.

Sunday:Church, and Tex Mex food afterwards. Tex Mex food is so good but it's quite a bit different than Mexican food in California. I wanted to find a Christmas gift for Clarence so we went to Petsmart(and took him with us-I think he was a little overwhelmed!)

After dinner, we watched 3 more episodes of Hannibal :)

[volunteering for health work in countries with ebola..]

Should come with a caveat. You *will* be quarantined. If you don't like it, tough. It's a matter of public health/safety. Not only that, you, health workers, should know  better than to complain about this. You really freaking should.

Thankfully everyone(save for Thomas Duncan) got help early enough that they recovered/are recovering.

Luckily,we're getting a better understanding of how this thing works(and getting better treatments for  it and, hopefully, by next year, a vaccine.)

One of the reasons that we've been able to keep this under control is because we have excellent medical care here. We could definitely use some improvements when it comes to quarantining people with Ebola, but we're doing better. This is going to be a way of life for a while so we need to just get used to it.

Seriously, I was so freaked out  at one point that I did not want to go on the plane. But you know what? I thought "why get freaked out about this?"

[things and cruise critic stuff]

*HAL(Holland America) is contemplating going to  all anytime dining-and people are not happy. There are a lot of people who prefer to do things the "old school"..I won't be surprised if they do so-they want to be in the 21st century, and this is a time when a lot of cruise lines are doing away with the MDR(main dining room) and offering only restaraunts of various sorts on their ships. I kinda like that idea.

Too many people have this image of cruising as being something out of Titanic. Is that a generalisation? probably, but imma say it anyways.

*We get it: Pajama pants(and hats, though there are legit reasons to be wearing a hat in the MDR) are a no-no.

*Putting your feet up on the spot in between slot machines is rude.-I'll agree, it is,but I can see why some people do it-it's a comfort thing.

Several people admitted they do it-which doesn't surprise me all that much(see also: taking  an elevator to go up one flight of stairs.) We all know what happens when you assume, LOL.

It just goes to show just how tightly wound some people at Cruise Critic are about certain things. They just don't think before they post.

[S1 Ep 13 Savoureux]

*Will out in the woods hunting, with the bullroarer sound effect(which crops up again later on in the episode) is truly scary. And I don't get scared easily. Then we realize that it's a dream sequence, with the camera distorting slightly..and Will goes into the kitchen and throws up an ear.

*Of course, he calls Hannibal, who is Mr. Helpful(NOT!!)

*The Ravenstag/Wendigo imagery has been prominent,in case it wasn't clear that the Ravenstag/Wendigo represents Hannibal.

*Poor Will. They cart him off and Winston is so confused. Winstooooooon!

*Jack is such a jerk, and it doesn't get better 'till most of the way through S2. He pushed Will. Yes, he did.Alana has every right to go off on him. The scene where she loses her shit in her car is masterful. She's the one who takes care of Will's dogs whilst he's in the mental hospital(and adopts one of her own-I would have loved to have heard the backstory behind her adopting Applesauce(her dog's name).

*Beverly is skeptical(though she *is* the one who goes to bat for Will and well...

*Will looks so unsurprised when Alana asks him to draw a clock.

*Hannibal's fake ass tears  when he talks about Will with Bedelia.. *seethes* Hannibal has Bedelia wrapped around his little finger..

*Hannibal is the world's best frame up artist with the lures(and yet they don't find any of Hannibal's DNA from when he stuck himself? WTF.

*Will gets Mirandized. Oh Will. Oh honey.

*After the end of S2 there should be no doubt about what Hannibal is.In this episode  though, they're drinking Hannibal's Kool-Aid.

*The look Hannibal gets on his face when Alana mentions encephalitis.. if looks could kill..

*Will escapes and hangs out at Hannibal's. He's starting to put things together. He and Hannibal go back to Minnesota and that's where  the showdown happens. Again, we get the bullroarer(with very creepy effect, again) and Will gets shot we get a callback to the pilot with Will in the same spot Garrett Jacob Hobbs was killed saying " See? See?" and he sees Hannibal as the wendigo. We get another callback to the pilot with Hannibal and Jack sitting on either side of Will's hospital bed just like Will and Hannibal did with Abigail.

*Bedelia knows Hannibal. She knows him very well. She probably-no, definitely-knows what she's eating is people.

*That final scene where Hannibal visits Will... Say it with me: "Hannibal, you ASSHOLE!!"

Quotable:
Will: I stared at Hobbs; and the space opposite  me assumed the shape of a man filled with dark swarming flies. Then I scattered them.

[creative writing]

Today's prompt is: "Complete this  famous tagline with your own:The greatest tragedy is"

Hatred of any sort. People struggling to get by and barely making it most months. This was an easy one for me. i think I've answered a questions like this before. I think I..I wouldn't say "think about it a lot" would be quite the right wording but it fits so we'll go with it.

I'm a very deep thinker, I just don't show it a lot. When I get into my "deep in thought" mode it's more moral and philosophical things than anything else.

[ coffee snob]

I tried Folger's vanilla biscotti K-cups. In the past,I didn't like the flavoured K Cups. This, however, was GOOD. To the point where I am going to find it very hard to switch to tea(which I am planning to do as one of my New Year's resolutions. That's just going to be changed to drinking tea a couple of times a week, I think.

Normally I just buy whatever K Cups are good/on sale, I discovered that I didn't like the Gevalia K cups(too thin and watery)

Starbucks' light roasts are TOO light-they're probably great if you're just starting drinking coffee or  want something that doesn't have quite as much POW to it. Or, if you don't know what kind of coffee like-but you quickly realise there's better out there.

[weekend report]

Friday: I went to UTC,  and went to my parents' house afterwards. I got to see their remodeled kitchen which looks great. I love their fridge-you open it up and you can actually find stuff in there. They also got a new light fixture in their living room, and a new light fixture(which is really bright!) in the entryway.

Also, I got a new bed, which I love :)

Saturday:Went to Point Loma with my mom. Kinda changed up my routine.Went to Con Pane which is a bakery. There was a long line to order but it moved quickly. Whilst you're in line you can see all the pastries they had. I had a brioche twist with chocolate which I thought was just so-so-and a cup of coffee.  I sat and drank my coffee and  people watched for the  best part of an hour.

Then I went to the Corvette Diner for lunch which was busy(there was a birthday party(or several?) going on.

Of course the highlight of the day was the Paley Hannibal panel :)

Sunday:I got a pre-trip haircut,a flu shot(my arm kinda hurts as I'm writing this but not anything I can't handle). Then, after dinner we went to my brother's house for dessert-chocolate fondue-he had all sorts of things to dip in it-pretzels, pound cake, and strawberries to name a few things. :)

This was one of my busier weekends in a while. When I'm at my house, my weekend reports are like "laundry, went to the gym". I need to  vary my weekends at home a little more, I think :P

[two Hannibal posts this week!]

One at the start of the week, and my review of a S1 episode on Friday :)

So..the Paley Center Hannibal panel(Pannibal) was yesterday. I watched online since it was in New York  and I wasn't there in person.Watching it online was awesome and just as good, if you ask me!

*Filming on S3 starts tomorrow(!) which is why the cast couldn't hang out for a *real* long time afterwards.

*There was a great vibe there, a great audience(Hettienne Park was there with her baby who was wearing an Eat The Rude onesie. Awww)

Things we learned:

*There is going to be much more female energy in S3.

*Will will be(ha!) trying to find a balance between his sanity and his insanity.

*Hannibal's outfits are going to be ore flashy and we're going to see much more of a variety of clothes.

*The first episode of S3 is a pilot for a show about Bedelia and Hannibal's relationship(iiiinteresting!)

*Everything about this panel confirmed what I've known for a while:This show and its cast and crew and show runner are *amazing*.

*There were shout outs  to the cinematorgrapher, Jim Hawkinson, and Brian Reitzell, who does the music and scores for Hannibal(his music is so creepy and perfect! both the ticking clock from Mizumono and the tube sound effect from Kaiseki were mentioned).

*The audience had some *great* questions when they got to the Q and A part of the panel.

*Bryan is definitely a fan of spoilers. I'm with him on that. I'm not a person who likes to stay spoiler free but I get that other people *don't* want to know what is going to happen!

*Anyways, it was SO much fun-and I'm sure a lot of that panel  has been GIFed and is going to be quoted ad nauseum -but that's Fannibals for you :)

[more tv things]

Still liking Selfie  and The Mysteries Of  Laura.

Gracepoint is really good, but..David Tennant's accent is all over the place. That is my only criticism of it.Truly. I love everything else about it.

Gotham is SO good-very dark, very noir.

TLC(The Learning Channel) I love you, but Extreme Cheapskates is so played out at this point. Someone removing their own tooth to save money?Really? and someone else MacGyvering a AC unit out of a styrofoam cooler with a styrofoam cooler, ice, and a fan.Yes, really.

Don't get me started on how TLC still keeps the Duggars around, especially since their opinions have gotten a lot more extreme recently.

What I'd like to see more of:Extreme Couponing. I love seeing people with 4 or 5 grocery carts.. and they only wind up spending like $5 on all their groceries. And  their stockpiles of groceries. I like it when they buy the groceries to give to their church.

I'd like to do that; the only problem is that California doesn't double coupons(that's why you never see  a lot of people from California on Extreme Couponing).Doubling coupons is the best way to save money the way that those couponers do.

[S1 Ep 10 Buffet Froid]

*The beginning of this episode is an honest to god jump scare-in anyone else's hands it would be a tired trope, but here, it totally works.

*The clock drawing-I love Will's "why?" when Hannibal asks him to draw a clock.

*Will freaking out at the crime scene and thinking he's contaminated it.

*Beth LeBeau's house and Will's house are very similar. Coincidence?

*Jack asks if he's broken Will. I think you know the answer to that,Jack. Not only that, Jack flip flops a lot WRT Will.

*Funny how they initially think the killer is a guy.

*Hannibal is so manipulative, and misdirecting.-when Will needs a doctor, Hannibal suggests Dr. Sutcliffe who is a friend of his.He tells Sutcliffe  to lie to Will. Will later suspects, which is why he wants to have more tests done. This causes Sutcliffe to wind up becoming Dr. Pez Head.

*A good book on encephalitis is Brain On Fire by Susannah Cahallan. In the book there is a picture of the clock she drew when she was sick and it looks exactly like the one Will drew.

*Will goes back to Beth LeBeau's house, runs into Georgia Madchen and loses time. And pulls off a bunch of Georgia's skin.He calls Beverly because she is the only one who understands him.Always was.

*Hannibals says that anything he publishes about Will would be changed enough so that it wouuldn't be obvious who he is. Somehow, I kinda doubt that,it's Hannibal we're talking about, after all!

*"You didn't kill Miriam Lass..the Chesapeake Ripper did".. one of those "in hindsight" moments to be sure.

*Georgia manages to slip past Will's "guard" dogs. The last scenes of the movie-how Georgia sees what happened-are trippy-Hannibal with no face. I believe that this is also the first appearance of the "murder onesie".

Quotable:

Jack:I'm not sand,I'm bedrock.

Will:It's  7:16 P.M., I'm in Baltimore Maryland,my name is Will Graham.

[my new favourite thing]

Youtube user You Can Call Me A's American junk food reviews(she's in the UK and buys them off a UK website which sells American junk food(candy, drinks, chips and the like)

She's tried(among others):

Jolly Ranchers( she didn't care for the apple ones-funny because apple(and watermelon) are my favourite flavours.

Mike and Ikes

Kool Aid(which she didn't like)

Pop Tarts

Combos

Jiffy Pop(I LOVED Jiffy Pop when I was a kid but there was always  some of it that got burned no matter what!)

Moon Pies(which she said were soggy-well, the cake/cookie part, which I agree with.)

Candy Corn(which I don't think are special because you can get them for *every* holiday now, not just Halloween!)

[you have to live your life as normally as possible]

There are going to be a lot of-are- a lot of nurses that complain that a)they're not trained enough and b) that nurses(including Nina Pham and now, apparently, another health care worker who has Ebola, are being thrown under the bus.]

Let's be real here: Nursing is a noble profession.

However, the fact of the matter is is that nurses ARE underpaid and undertrained to deal with Ebola. They are no Emory, that is for sure.Texas Presbyterian, who hospital that treated Thomas Duncan, the man who died of Ebola. already has two strikes against it.And it's  NOT OK to criticise the hospital in spite of all that?

Texas Presbyterian needs to cut  the "we're doing the best we can" crap. This is not a "try your best" situation. I don't know, am I being too harsh?I'd appreciate your comments.

What I'll never understand was why people freaked out over Kent Brantly and Nancy Writebol being flown back to the U.S. Admittedly, I was one of those people who had a LOT of concerns, but eventually, I understood-and let's be honest here-would they have survived  if they had stayed in Liberia?

Precautions were taken in bringing them back to the States and they were getting the best care possible. And now, Kent Brantly is giving back by donating his blood in hopes it helps those with Ebola who need it.

So yeah:Better someplace like Emory, where they are equipped to deal with Ebola, than someplace like Texas Presbyterian, who half ass it with protocols.Hell, this is the hospital that sent Thomas Duncan home with a fever.

And you know, I have a lot of opinions about this, but I'm keeping them to myself.

I can't believe the balls Nancy Snyderman has, breaking her quarantine because she HAD to have..a bowl of soup. She was exposed when she was in Liberia recently.)

There's a LOT of call for her to be fired from NBC-and I agree.Of all the people who REALLY should know better, she should. She's been reporting on the Ebola outbreak from the start. It's wrong, on so many levels. However, she will NEVER be sorry enough about that for my liking. This is  a matter of public safety and health. NBC needs to make an example of her.

[thank you,pope francis]

I am  pleasantly surprised by Pope Francis saying that the church has to be accepting/welcoming to LGBTQ church members. Not sure what caused this change in Pope Francis' way of thinking, but I like it!

This speaks to Pope Francis' willingness to have a dialogue with people-and I really hope he  has a sit-down meeting with people from the LGBTQ community.

Of course, "traditionalist" Catholics are NOT happy about this. They already hate Pope Francis, and now they're going to hate him even more. Basically, traditionalist Catholics would rather that Pope Francis *didn't* have dialogue with certain groups-to use a Mean Girls quote "You can't sit here"-actually, it's more like "You can't dialogue with them!"

And yeah,it *is* that petty. They resent Pope Francis because he's going in a different direction than Pope Benedict. I really wanted to like Pope Benedict. But he put a lot of people off of the church. When history records such things, I think Pope Francis will be remembered as one of the most beloved popes, along with Pope John Paul II

[weekend report]

Friday: I went to UTC(University Town Center)

Saturday: I went to Starbucks, the grocery store and did a load of laundry. In other words, a busy weekend Saturday!

Sunday:Went to the gym(after having not gone for a while.. I have to take the bus there and the weather's been hot. Which makes me NOT want to go to the gym. And I totally would take a taxi there but that could get expensive.Which makes me very glad that the weather is starting to be more typical for this time of the year.

Sunday, October 12, 2014

[odds and ends]

*I had a dream about Mads Mikkelsen. I was in a Starbucks and he walks in and most of the people in there were like blase about him being there but I walked up to him and started talking to him-and apparently I'd met him before because he knew my name! I was sitting at a table in Starbucks hanging out with Mads.It was SO cool!

*My latest thing is Ronan Farrow.I am fascinated with him. Not in  a  crush sort of  way.. but I can't get over how much he looks like a mixture of his mom and(allegedly) his father, Frank Sinatra(however, google pictures of him. It's obvious he's Frank's kid!)

*La Croix water(specifically the lime and cherry flavour) is the best thing ever.

*I actually got to see the lunar eclipse on early Wednesday-I didn't think I was going to, but I woke up at 4 am and something was telling me to go outside and look up-and I did-and it was beautiul! I've seen two of the four of the blood moons-hopefully I'll get to see all of them!

[an overabundance of caution/troubling]

3 Holland America  cruises have been cancelled because of engine problems. That's good. Better safe than sorry.

Now to the "what are Cruise Critic posters thinking?" portion of the post:

There is a(still ongoing though there's beginning to be some thread drift) about manners. There was a comment about how there are some who expect *everyone* to conform to their standards.Indeed.. Holland America cruisers are a international bunch, and I think that gets forgotten-deliberately in a lot of cases.

Then there was the post where a man(woman?) said the maitre did would not allow them  to wear a hat in the MDR(main dining room) and so had to subject fellow diners to(and apparently sickened ) them with the sight of  their brain surgery scar. If this is true..WTF.

The the reaction to that was.. a non-reaction. Basically, "if we make an exception for you, we have to make an exception for everyone". Compassion is something quite a few Cruise Critic posters(and at least one Holland America maitre'd) lack. I've said this before: there may be a legit reason someone has to wear a hat in the  MDR. That gets forgotten/ignored.

It's a LOT of people's berzerk button. And when I say berzerk, I mean exactly that.

[S1 Ep 2 Amuse Bouche]

*  I can still eat mushrooms after watching this episode.

*We have Garret Jacob Hobbs' house of horrors in the woods.

*There is the realisation Abigail might be a accomplice.

*We get "not comfortable in my own skin" Will when his class applauds when he walks in his class.

*Jack is pushing Will. Definitely. Will's "therapy doesn't work on me" sounds just like Abigail later on in S1.

*Of course the kids think the mushroom farm is marijuana.

*The Mushroom people.Oh my god. A bunch of fun guys(and gals). Sorry.Had to make the obvious joke.

*We get a Will and Beverly(Kazam? Wilberly?) scene.

*Freddie is..Freddie.

*One of the mushroom people is still alive(only just..)

*Hannibal sees right through Freddie-and I'm really surprised that Hannibal didn't eat her.  Well, he did.Or though he did in S2.

Freddie is not a fan of Will's(that's putting it mildly)..I'll be interested to see what her part in S3 is, though. This could get interesting.  Zeller's "you used me" to her-I would have LOVED to see more backstory behind that!

Later on Freddie gets called out by the cop(who knows she's gotten people fired before) .

* I love the scene where Alana reads Flannery O'Connor to Abigail(if you haven't read any of Flannery O'Connor's stories, you really should. They're strange, Southern Gothic-y things but well worth the read.

*Will takes down Stammets and saves Abigail(who  Stammets was going to turn into mushroom food) in the process.

[tv things]

There's a new Dallas series on TNT that got cancelled. But there is some talk that another network may pick it up.One of my online friends LOVES Dallas. I pointed out that when it looked like Hannibal wasn't going to be picked up for a second season, there was talk that there were a bunch of interests who were interested in airing it. Hopefully Dallas gets another chance.

It sucks that TNT won't let their shows find an audience..Dallas is far from the only victim of this. TNT has cancelled some great shows, like Monday Mornings(a medical drama). That was a show I would have LOVED to see get a second season. It just didn't have enough of an audience to make it.

There are a lot of new shows this season that are not going to make it.Unfortunately, as funny as it is, Selfie is probably going to be one of the first new shows to get cancelled. And that's a shame.

I really wanted to like Blackish because..Laurence Fishburne. But I just don't care for it.

OTOH, some of the shows(like Mysteries of Laura)that have been getting mixed reviews,I really like.

There have been a lot of Criminal Minds-alikes(none of which I think are going to last) And Criminal Minds  is starting to get played out. CSI,on the other hand, is still really good(admittedly, I have a soft spot for it.) I hadn't watched NCIS for a few years because it got ridiculous.. but I was intrigued by the ads for this week's episode so I DVR'd it and watched it later..I really enjoyed it,apart from some half-assed CGI.

I used to love Chicago Fire, but it's a soap.It was starting to get that way when I quit watching and it is even more so now.

[a sign of the times]

Kensington video, which is a San Diego institution, is going out of buisness. In this age of Netflix, I can't say I'm all that surprised. It's a shame, since Kensington has such a varied selection-stuff that is hard to find elsewhere-though you can find it-on Amazon, probably-but it's expensive!

It's surprising to me where they have good selections of DVD's and Blu Rays.Barnes and Noble's DVD/ Blu Ray selection is pretty ho-hum.. except for their selection of Criterion DVD's-they have a lot of those(but they're expensive!)

San Diego needs someplace like Amoeba Music that has a HUGE selection of music and movies-we kinda had that with Lou's Records, and to a lesser extent with Off The Record, and the place that went in where Lou's used to be in downtown Encinitas.

Lou's used to be *the* place to go-I spent  SO much of my allowance there when I was a teenager!

But then they started hiring people that have an attitude and that's when it went in the toilet, IMO. Then they moved to Leucadia with the two buildings. Now they're crammed into one of the buildings. It's not as great as it used to be, and I won't be surprised if they close and go strictly online in a year or two.

There is a lot of talk about about how the big box stores are killing the mom and pop stores/coffee houses. Not that I am OK with the big box stores coming into areas where there are a perfectly good book or coffee store. However, I don't think the mom and pops(which get praised for being customer friendly) are, always.

San Diego has Warwicks. which has stayed in buisness in spite of the economy. There have been plenty of great bookstores(like Bookworks in Del Mar and Earth Song, also in Del Mar) that, sadly, didn't make it.

The thing with Warwicks is that they really have  made their store customer friendly-and it's not just books-one side is books-quite a good selection, actually-and the other side is stationery and gifts. It's incredible, and very unique as bookstores go.  One of my favourite bookstores is Chaucer's in Santa Barbara. It's in a strip mall, but it's amazing!

[book post!]

Finally, a book post!

I'm doing pretty good on my goal to read 50 books by the end of the year. I think I'll get there in plenty of time, even if I read a lot of  long books. I read Outlander by Diana Gabaladon, but it took me two weeks, and that was reading it every chance I get(I take whatever I'm reading with me wherever I go.)

I'm not sure if I want to commit to reading the whole Outlander series(I bought the second book and am going to read it, but they're HUGE books. I had told myself, no more series books after reading the Game Of Thrones series(as much fun as those are to read)

The last 2 books I've read (counting the one I'm reading right now) are one or two day reads.  I've got an ever-growing "to read" pile-hoping  that I can get it down to a manageable level(it's actually not that big;I'm exaggerating just a little!)

[weekend report]

Friday: Didn't leave the house until late because I wound up hanging out at my house so that I could watch Claire Danes on Kelly And Michael-it was a great interview-the first thing they asked her was about Cyrus(and they talked about Hugh, too). She was on there to promote Homeland(which had its season premiere last night)

Then, I took the bus to Encinitas, but the driver didn't run the a/c. And it was HOT that day. WTF.

I did some Christmas shopping(yep..I try to get some of it done on the early side-I just can't go to the mall at Christmastime. Too many people!

Saturday:I went to Encinitas again and hung out at Barnes &Noble. Then later on we went down to Kearny Mesa and went to 99 Ranch Market which is a pan-Asian(Chinese-Japanese-Thai you get the idea) market.

It's incredible! They have all this stuff I've never seen up close(rabbit! durian!) and they have a tank full of live fish, and whole fish(on ice ) available to buy. Several people on Yelp(I checked  out some reviews before I went) and they said it smelled fishy-well, it would, they have a fish market-but I didn't think it was unpleasant though!)

We went to Jasmine, which my parents had been to before, but I hadn't. Ever since the place down the street from my parents' house closed,we've all been looking for a replacement. Jasmine was pretty darn good. Yep, it's a drive, but it's worth it.

Sunday:My parents and I went to IKEA(usually I'm good for one trip a year but I've been twice recently!) and we ate at the restaraunt. I branched out and had the baby back ribs(usually I have the meatballs). I have to say, the ribs were REALLY good.I would order them again. for sure.

[odds and ends]

*I got new glasses. I had to have my eyes dilated..That was..unpleasant. I'll just leave it at that :P

*It feels like summer in the daytime, but at night it is *definitely* fall. Also, there's a lunar eclipse this week![/nerdy]

*I gave my mom my Christmas list..she appreciated getting it so early :)

*Originally I was going to put this in a separate post but I tried 2 new restaraunts(3, actually, my parents had been to one of the restaraunts before  but I hadn't-more about that tomorrow!)

The first was Local Tap House which is close to my house. Not  a huge menu but I was able to find something that I liked, and Teri Cafe which had Japanese food with a Hawaiian theme. This was because we couldn't get over to where  we usually have lunch because the street was closed. I  didn't mind trying something new, and it was delicious(I had a teriaki chicken bowl and an iced tea) And it was cheap-under $13 for both of us!

[a difference of opinion..or something else?]

The Cruise Critic posts are back, yes. Not sure if this is going to become a regular thing again or not.. but..

It seems like there are a lot of people who like to be..in your face. Case in point when it comes to hats. I understand that wearing a hat indoors is rude..I do. BUT, there are reasons that someone would be wearing a hat indoors, like if they have recently had chemo. I've said this before, but  saying "No, you should not wear a hat  indoors *ever*-even if you have a legit reason to-is just going to make them feel self conscious about it. Is that *honestly* how you want to come off to others?

Then there's the matter of what constitutes rudeness and bad manners.. I have to say that that thread is a REALLY good example of why you should think before you post something. There are a lot of assumptions being made-about a LOT of things-and we all know what happens when you assume.

Take people taking the elevator to go from one floor to the next. When someone said that that bothers them, a bunch of people chimed in that you don't know what their situation is, maybe they have trouble with their mobility and they don't want to take the stairs. Thing is, that isn't the sort of thing you can always see, it's not so obvious(hell, I have trouble walking down the stairs on a cruise ship and I'm  fairly able bodied, though  I do have some balance issues. The time I  try to avoid using the stairs is when the ship is moving, because that can be dicey!

[S1 Ep 12 Releves]

*Georgia and Will's heart to heart(as an aside: Georgia's grafts are not very good.)

*Wakey wakey Will!(ever since I first saw that episode I've wondered what silkie chicken tastes like). Will: "You made me chicken soup?" Hannibal: "Yes". Ouch.

*Will's insight on Georgia basically signs her death warrant.

*I have a very severe fear of static shock so Georgia's death was hard for me to watch on several different levels.

*Freddie dislikes Will.Stating the obvious,I know. She's Ms. Unhelpful.

*The Grudge shout out with Georgia which turns out to be Will-sweaty, fevery Will..still in his hospital room.

*Jack is concerned so he goes to talk to Hannibal. Oh Jack.. *shakes head*.

*We get a scene with Jack and Bedelia( Crawdelia?) Bedelia knows what's going on with Hannibal..it's pretty obvious in this episode and also in a LOT of the second season. She says "Hannibal, stop" later on in the episode. Yeah, that. :P There are allusions to her attack, the truth about which comes out in S2. Also, we get Hannibal and his boundaries. Or lack thereof, I should say.

*We see a lot of the  "real" Abigail in this episode, especially when she's talking to Will.

*Will talking to Hannibal about the case "It's someone close to the case". No.Shit.

*Will  takes aspirin like they're Tic Tacs. How he doesn't have a hole in his stomach I will never know(maybe he uses coated aspirin?)

*Clearly, Abigail had(at that point) been brainwashed(somewhat) by Hannibal, already, which,in hindsight, as with Miriam...especially watching  the scene where Hannibal tells Abigail that he couldn't protect her in this life.

*Will loses time and wakes up in a plane on the tarmac at Dulles which is probably one of his most disturbing losing time episodes.

[the happiest place in florida]

One of my friends just got back from a week in Orlando and she loved it. They hit all of the parks, and  had a great time. They had a package deal with all of the food included, and there was a shuttle that would take you around to all of the parks. Her kids loved it. They stayed at a kid friendly hotel, which  the vast majority *would* be, given that it's Orlando!

But it got me thinking: That would be a GREAT place for a family reunion for my family. Especially a hotel where they had everything included and we didn't really have any need for a car(but would probably have at least one rental car just in case)

There are enough kids in the family that are the age to really appreciate Disneyworld and the theme parks..they adults  would like it too!

There's a lot of themed hotels(disney and others.) Nickelodeon has a resort but the colour scheme-lots of orange-they chose is atrocious.

[working out]

My workout at my current gym consists of some variation of  treadmill, bike, and weights(I switch the order of them around so that I don't get bored.)

I  go to a  gym that is supposedly the biggest on the West Coast.I believe it-compared to my old gym, it *would* seem small! I have yet to try any of the classes-I've seen the yoga and aerobics/Zumba classes going on. I do not, however, want to try spinning. To a man, when I've told people I have spinning classes at my gym everyone say "Oh my gosh, that will kick your butt!" I believe it!

One of the big reasons I joined my gym is that they have a pool. I've only used it once. I'll probably use it again though. I like that a) it's heated, but not too heated and b) it's  not too deep.
